Creative Visualization - Unlocking The Genie Within Your Subconscious Mind

By Joel Chue

What would you wish for if you have Aladdin’s lamp today? Believe it or not…

There is actually a secret kept hidden from men that can allow the realization of their deepest desires and aspirations. And this secret to realization and manifestation is our subconscious mind.

Our subconscious mind is akin to Aladdin’s lamp. There is a genie within that needs to be awakened, to unlock the secrets and the power of manifestation. And one such way is creative visualization.

Creative visualization is a powerful technique to tap the power of the subconscious mind. It is positive thinking with an intention to create your reality. Here’s how you do it.

First, think of a focus. Something attainable and quite within reach like losing weight or getting a promotion. As you practice, you can venture on goals that are more difficult later on.

Find a little “sanctuary” of your own, any place that can give you the peace and quiet you will need in order to concentrate. Make certain there will be no distractions as you perform this exercise. When you’re ready, assume a position of comfort; some people find lying or sitting as most conducive, but you can explore which position would grant you more comfort and focus.

Breathe deeply and relax. Empty your mind and concentrate on your focus. Count slowly from 10-1.

Now, imagine the thing you want most to happen (your chosen focus), in exactly the way you would like it to occur. Think of as much detail as you can, gradually making the image as vivid in your thoughts as if it were really happening right there and then.

Afterwards, you must affirm the image you visualized in your mind. An affirmation can be said silently or aloud, whichever is stronger in impact to you. It is a statement of profound belief that what you imagined can truly become a reality. Make certain you avoid negative affirmations. Instead of saying “ I am not ugly and worthless” state that you are beautifully made and worthy of all the limitless opportunities this world has to offer.

The best time to do this would be late in the evening, before you go to bed, or upon waking up after a good night’s rest. At these times, your mind would be calm and relaxed. By improving your deepest attitudes towards life and towards yourself, you enhance your self-image, strengthen and improve relationships, and more importantly, you contribute to your physical wellness and mental health.

What are you waiting for? Begin your creative visualization exercise now!

Do We All Have A Mental Blueprint?

by Julianne Rowat

Whether we realize it or not we all have a mental blueprint. From the day we are born, as we grow we get hundreds of ideas about oursel

ves. Are we good or bad, smart or dumb, poor or successful? This is the self image we start having of ourselves, the way we think we are. It's not who we are, but who we think we are.

Once the idea about our self is recorded in our subconscious, we just automatically think that is who we have to be. In order to change, you must think differently. Don't get hung up on the person you think you are, think of the kind of person you would like to be.

You don't have to have permission from others to change your life. Your own desire is the only permission you will ever need. Don't ever think what you want for yourself is wrong, just because others don't want the same thing.

In order to really change your mental blueprint, you have to change inside not outside. A lot of people will feel if they change the car they drive, or change the color of their house, maybe even the landscaping, it will make them look like a better person. Just changing the outside scenery doesn't change the inside scenery.

So, do we all have a mental blueprint? Yes! Can we change our mental blueprint? Yes! All you have to do is think of the person you want to be, it's all mental not black and white.

How to Use the Subconscious to Cope with Body System Triggers of Your Pain

By Ben Plumb

The musculoskeletal, immune and endocrine systems can all be potent triggers of pain signals in your body. Here's a way to use your subconscious mind to try to lessen the impact of those triggers.

The Musculoskeletal System

The musculoskeletal system consists of the muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, cartilage and other elements that make up the structural part of your body.

In chronic pain one or more parts of this system may not be working properly. Muscles may be cramped, joints may be out of alignment, tendons and ligaments may be overstretched or inflexible, cartilage may be inelastic, and so on.

These factors may be operating in back pain or pain in the neck or other extremities, arthritis pain, fibromyalgia pain , or neuropathic pain (nerve pain).

Chiropractic, massage and acupuncture are often helpful in relieving pain triggered by the musculoskeletal system. But if you don't get results, or if the pain keeps coming back after a short interval, it may be worthwhile to focus your subconscious on the structures involved.

The Subconscious and the Musculoskeletal System

The subconscious may be able to identify general or specific parts of the musculoskeletal system that are contributing to your pain. If so, it usually can then generate visualization statements directed at those parts.

Visualization statements represent the specific language that your subconscious wants you to read back to it to help ease your pain. They’re simple and are targeted directly at the main factors that could bring you relief.

You can obtain these statements by learning how to communicate directly with your own subconscious mind. The process is straightforward and can be done at home by working with a facilitator over the telephone. You you need no special skills and no previous experience in working with the subconscious.

The subconscious appears to be able to relax muscles, align joints, increase the flexibility of tendons and ligaments, and make other changes that help to ease pain.

Any changes brought about may not need to be large. For example, removing just a slight amount of pressure from a nerve being pinched at a joint may be enough to provide relief.

The changes brought about tend to build on one another. For example, when a joint becomes more aligned, the muscles around it tend to relax. When a tendon becomes more elastic, it tends to stop pulling on muscles.

The Immune System

The immune system is a complex of organs and cells designed to defend the body when it is invaded. When the system is out of balance it could be implicated in arthritis, fibromyalgia and other conditions that cause pain. Visualizations may help to provide relief.

The major parts of the immune system include the lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, lymphatic fluid, the spleen, the thymus and the T-cells it produces, and the bone marrow and the B-cells it produces.

Auto-immune problems occur when the system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues. In the case of rheumatoid arthritis pain or psoriatic arthritis pain, for example, it sends white blood cells into the joints, producing chemicals that cause inflammation. This swells the joint lining and wears down the cartilage, narrowing the space between the bones and causing pain.

In the case of fibromyalgia pain, it's not known whether the immune system is a cause of the condition or an effect of it. But it is known that a defect in T-cell activation is associated with the disease.

The immune system could also be a factor in back pain or pain in the neck or other extremities, or neuropathic pain (nerve pain).

The Subconscious and the Immune System

The subconscious may be able to help you deal with immune issues in two ways.

First, it may be possible to use visualization statements to reduce the intensity of the immune system attack on healthy parts of the body.

For example, we have had some success in reducing both joint pain and skin eruptions in psoriatic arthritis. This is done by using visualizations to suggest to the subconscious that immune T-cells are to be put into action only when the body is truly attacked by an outside invader.

Second, it may be possible to use visualizations to strengthen the immune system. Your subconscious may be able to identify whether regulatory, helper, and/or killer T-cells are weak, and suggest a way to alleviate the problem through visualizations. It may also suggest visualizing stronger bone marrow, a healthier spleen, or a more robust lymphatic flow.

The Endocrine System

Hormones are chemicals that circulate in body fluids and are designed to produce particular effects. Hormones are secreted by the adrenals, hypothalamus, pituitary, ovaries, testes, thyroid and other endocrine glands.

When the chemicals produced by these glands are out of balance with one another they appear to play a prominent role in causing joint pain, and may be one of the underlying causes of conditions as diverse as fibromyalgia pain, migraines, arthritis pain, depression, and chronic fatigue syndrome.

The endocrine system could also be a factor in back pain or pain in the neck or other extremities, or neuropathic pain (nerve pain).

The Subconscious and the Endocrine System

The subconscious seems to be aware of the existing levels of your individual hormones, and through visualization may be able to increase or reduce their levels enough to bring them into balance with one another. It also appears to be able to increase the absorption of DHEA, which is the basic building block of all hormones.

For example, it's possible to ask about the levels of adrenalin, estradiol, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, human growth hormone, melatonin, thyroxin, and other hormones. If your subconscious connects any of them to your pain it can then be asked to provide visualization statements to help bring them back into balance.

In addition the subconscious may be asked to identify which hormone-producing organs may need strengthening. Many times this turns out to be the adrenals and/or the thyroid gland. Visualizations to help shore these organs up can then be generated.

If the subconscious thinks the rate of metabolism needs to be adjusted up or down, it may be possible to obtain language helping the subconscious to make the desired change.

Programming the Subconscious

The subconscious is quite powerful. When programmed through the very visualizations that it suggests, it may be able to turn episodes of uncontrolled pain into events over which you have a degree of control.

Self Hypnosis or Shelf Hypnosis?

Self Hypnosis or Shelf Hypnosis?By Richard A. Blumenthal

Self hypnosis is usually thought of as a person listening to an audio tape, mp3, or other mass-produced media, intended to induce a willingness to absorb suggestions centered around a specific topic such as weight loss, stop smoking, etc. Unfortunately, this kind of hypnosis is generally prepared by someone who has never met the person being hypnotized, often presenting unwanted, even unpleasant imagery and suggestions. For example, if you sunburn easily, that last thing you want to hear about is a slow walk on a sunny beach. In this case, the "self" in self hypnosis simply means that you listen to it by yourself!
A true self hypnosis would necessarily be designed and created by the very person who will ultimately use and benefit from it. Unlike the mass-produced hypnosis, this hypnosis is made for the exact purpose the person wishes, including the precise words and phrases that mean the most to that particular person. The true self hypnosis is thus crafted by the person to suit his or her own needs. The benefits derived could only be accomplished with such a personal, one-of-a-kind hypnosis. In this case, the "self" in self hypnosis really does mean that you are hypnotized by yourself!
Custom Hypnosis Scripts
The form of hypnosis in this discussion entails the use of the spoken word. There are other forms - drug induced, fixation of sensory attention, etc. But for our purpose, let us confine ourselves to the spoken word, which is by far the most popular of modern methods. The hypnosis, therefore, requires the composition of what will be recited to the person, otherwise known as a script. It has been shown in the literature that the choice of words included in the hypnosis script can have a profound effect on its success in conveying the beneficial ideas to the user. Even if it is written using widely accepted grammar, and just the right jargon to reflect society's opinions on the topic of the hypnosis, this does not guarantee that those words will have any powerful meaning for the person being hypnotized. It must be meaningful to the user, even if to no one else. A fabricated nonsense word fitting no frame of reference to the rest of the world, may be just the thing for the person who made up the word and knows just what it means. This is one of the great advantages of the custom hypnosis script. Particular people, familiar objects, events, routines, etc. peculiar to the person (and possibly no one else) are probably the most effective words to use. Always keep in mind that the aim of the script is to create a supremely meaningful experience for the person from start to finish. Therefore, all elements of the script should be to the taste, vocabulary, and possess a complete resonance with the beliefs of the individual using the hypnosis. As in the sunburn example above, if the imagery is objectionable to the person, it will probably be at that point in the script that the person "turns off" to t hypnosis experience. Likewise, if an objectionable behvioral idea is presented, that idea will either not be acted upon, or may even have some unwanted collateral effect, worsening the sitiuation. However, if the person to be hypnotized can truly say something like, "I wish I could think about this topic using the ideas contained in this hypnosis script.", we would have every reason to anticipate success. Though there is such a thing as "brainwashing", forcing the commission of behaviors and accepting concepts against the will of the person, it is not self hypnosis. In self hypnosis, the user must want to be hypnotized, and must want the ideas presented in the hypnosis, as well.
Having extolled the virtues of custom wording in hypnosis, we may now move on to the common elements found in many hypnosis scripts, regardless of wording. They may be termed in this way: stillness of the physical body; the imagination gateway; suggestion ideation; return to ordinary consciousness.
The Hypnosis Script Elements:
Stillness of the Physical Body
Since hypnotic induction depends on the mind concentrating on an "inner reality", stimulation to the physical body should be at a minimum. Many scripts begin with instructions to relax the various muscles, moving from one group to another. This is called progressive relaxation. However you want to accomplish this "stillness" is your option. The body function of breathing is, of course, one movement that can't be stopped and so it may be used as part of the relaxation, with instructions for slow and rhythmic breathing. Truly, the simple act of giving one's self permission to be still and quiet may suffice, and prove quite enjoyable to those who lead generally hectic lives.
The Imagination Gateway
This next portion of the hypnosis script is essential, as it provides the entry point into one's inner reality. When the person is engrossed in the imagination and dissociated from the surroundings, the person becomes more suggestible. This is the goal of hypnotic induction, to raise the level of suggestibility. Imagination is not limited to the laws of the physical universe. You may imagine any place, anywhere. Usually, though not necessarily, it is a place where you will feel comfortable and want to return to often. As you construct your scenario, be sure to include all of the five senses, plus movement (or the lack of it). Mention them in the context of the place you are creating and as you touch upon them all, you will find that you have created a rather complete experience. Remember, this need not be the relaxing lakeside or stroll on the beach that one might expect, unless you want it to be. It all depends on your own free flowing imagination. This is the ultimate in freedom!
Suggestion Ideation
Once you are thoroughly surrounded by your imagined place, it is time to give yourself the ideas you want/need. Though the whole thing takes place within your own mind, we can still call these ideas suggestions because you will hear them spoken to you, even if they are of your own invention. There has been much written about how to word a suggestion - keep it positive and direct, etc. In this case, all it has to be is meaningful to you. It doesn't matter if you use negativity, double negatives, or negative numbers, so long as it makes good sense to you. Suggestions may be thought of as falling into one of two categories: philosophical and behavioral. The philosophical variety would consist of those ideas that form the reasoning behind something that we do or feel, the why. For example, a stop smoking hypnosis may delve into the rationale for quitting - my family is important to me and needs me to be healthy; It is better to live a long life than a short one, etc. The behvioral suggestions would give direct instruction regarding what to feel, or what to do. To continue the smoking example - cigarettes taste like burning garbage and are abhorrent to me.
It may seem unecessary, even artificial to categorize ideas in this way. If it seems so to you, then it is unecessary. In truth, it is best to write any suggestion that you desire.
There is one more type of suggestion worth mentioning. On occasion, it may be useful to trigger some sort of behavior or emotion at the mention of a particular word, or the sight of a particular person, thing, or even imagining a particular symbol.. For example, to combat anxiety, the suggestion might be, "when I say the word 'playful' to myself I will instantly regain my composure and will calmly face the challenges before me." Picturing a symbolic object or person may also be very effective for this purpose. Symbols in themselves have a powerfully hypnotic connection to non-conscious thinking. For more about the non-conscious, please see the article, "What's Hard to Find, but Always With You?" at http://www.hypnosoft.com.
Closing Your Hypnosis Script
After making the suggestions, it is time to wind down the hypnosis and return to ordinary thinking. You may want to extend the pleasure of relaxation, giving yourself some time to rest. If the hypnosis is to be used just before sleep, you may wish to give yourself instructions on how you want to fall asleep and what time you want to awaken. For other types of hypnosis, you will want to give the instruction to awaken. Many scripts use backward counting to give the mind a chance to prepare for the return. For example, "you will hear counting, moving backward from three to one. When you reach one, you will awaken and return to your ordinary thinking. Three...two...one. You are awake."
Recording Your Hypnosis Script
When your script is complete, you will want to record it on a cassette tape, computer file, or other medium. Some people like to have music playing in the backgound. Many do not, finding it a distraction. Also, some people like to look at something hypnotic while listening to their hypnosis. Such pictures are available at http://www.geocities.com/hypnosis_self_hypnosis.

How to Use the Subconscious to Cope with Pain

How to Use the Subconscious to Cope with Body System Triggers of Your Pain
